Painted Vase & Chalkboard Frame for Fall
6:00:00 AM
I wanted to make some quick crafts to help create some some easy fall decor for my mantle.
I decided to turn to one of the quickest way to remake items: paint.
And what color do you think I turned to?
Yup. Blue.
Because orange is everywhere in autumn: pumpkins, leaves, gourds, Indian corn and candy corn...mmmm candy corn.
But I digress. One of the rules of thumb I know of about color is one way to make it pop is to use complementary colors--you know, colors that are opposite one another. And the color that is opposite orange, the color of fall...is blue.
So I took an old ivy bowl (it actually was part of the decor for my wedding reception).
I squirted some blue craft paint, and a little bit of glue and water into the ivy bowl. I mixed it all together and swirled the mixture all around the inside until I got the coverage I wanted.
While I was waiting for that little ivy bowl to dry, I took this frame.
Although I love this passage, I could never get anything to look right in the frame, since the quote overwhelmed everything.
So I took the blue paint and painted the edge. Then I painted the rest of the frame with chalkboard paint. I made a little pumpkin with some scrapbook paper for the inside of the frame. Then I wrote a little message on the frame.
Then I took the leftover fall themed flowers from my wreath and arranged them in the vase.
And there you have it, a little fall vignette.
